The Ohio State
University Department of Aviation
> About
Welcome aboard OSUAirways Flight 2009 to Columbus, Ohio . . .
In 1903, two brothers from Ohio took the Buckeye State to the forefront of the Aviation
industry. In the years to follow, The Ohio State University built upon the state’s
aviation roots by emerging as one of the nation’s premier Aviation academic and
research institutions. Today, the University continues to be Ohio’s Center of Excellence
in Aviation, preparing students to lead, develop, and operate a safe and efficient
global aviation system for the 21st Century.
Our program balances instruction among all segments of the Air Transportation System,
including the design, management, and flight segments of the industry. As a result,
our graduates hold positions as Airline Executives, Airport Managers, Aviation Security
Inspectors, Airport Planners, Flight Dispatchers, and of course, Pilots.
One of the most unique elements of our program is The Ohio State University Airport,
one of the nation’s only university-owned and operated facilities. The airport’s
combination of training, personal aircraft, and business aviation activities
supplements the classroom by serving as a learning and research laboratory, by providing
on-the-job training, and by offering contact with industry professionals.
