Ohio State’s Flight Education program operates under a FAA approved FAR Pt. 141
training curriculum, and offers a variety of certificates and ratings, ranging from
private pilot to commercial pilot and certified flight instructor.
The Aircraft Systems concentration results in students obtaining a Commercial Pilot
Certificate with Instrument and Multi-Engine privileges, and/or a Flight Instructor
Certificate. To enter Aircraft Systems there is a competitive proactive interview
to ensure that Students understand the requirements, the curriculum, and our expectations.
Careers for our Graduates include Flight Instruction, Charters, Regional and National
Airlines, Fractional Operators, Industrial Aviation, Business Aviation, Cargo Aviation,
and Specialized Flying.
The recommended Aircraft Systems curriculum for each college is shown in the following
table:
The College of Engineering offers a Bachelor’s of Science in either Specialization.
Their foundation is the in depth study of Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,
and other Engineering courses common to Engineering studies. From this Engineering
foundation the Aviation courses are then taken particular to the Specializations.
The College of Social and Behavioral Studies offers a Bachelor’s of Science or a
Bachelor’s of Arts degree in either Specialization. Their foundation is the in depth
study of the Social, Behavioral, and Communication Sciences, common to Liberal arts
studies. From this Arts and Sciences foundation the Aviation core courses are then
taken particular to the Specializations.
