Costs
Most programs listed below are offered free of charge. If you would like to make a donation to the Center for Aviation Studies’ scholarship fund, please call (614) 247-4366 for more information.
Preschool – Fifth Grade
OSU Airport Tours Students take an interactive, behind-the-scenes tour of The Ohio State University Airport. The tour is led by an airport employee and covers areas of the airport such as aircraft maintenance, the ramp, the observation tower, customer service, the terminal, line service, corporate aviation, and flight education. Participants also have the opportunity to sit in a training aircraft and learn how the controls are operated (weather, availability, and behavior dependent).

ProjectSIM The Ohio State University Airport’s real Cessna 172 cockpit simulator is available for checkout to schools and other educational facilities. On-site demonstrations of ProjectSIM by a pilot are also available.

Young Eagles Young Eagles is a collaborative program between The Ohio State University Airport and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 9. This program gives youth the opportunity to experience aviation through a first-hand introduction to flight. Free plane rides are included.

Sixth – Eighth Grade

Airport Job Shadow The Ohio State University Airport managers and staff provide students with an in-depth shadow and career exploration program. Students with an interest in aviation can shadow at the airport or other local aviation-related business. For sixth – eighth grade students this is a single day shadow program where you will get a taste of the departments at The Ohio State University Airport.Participants: Students with teacher permission

OBAP ACE Camp The Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals (OBAP) and The Ohio State University Airport collaborate to allow underserved youths to experience aviation first-hand. Introductory Flights and a simulator lesson are included, weather permitting.

OBAP Programs
Youth Aviation Adventure This half-day program held at The Ohio State University Airport introduces youth to the exciting world of aviation in a hands-on adventure. Through the use of real aircraft to unravel the mystery and wonder of flight, youths learn about airport operations, instruments in a cockpit, aerodynamics, preflight an actual airplane, and also have the opportunity to take a free airplane ride through Young Eagles.
Upon completion of the program, Boy Scouts will satisfy most of the requirements for their aviation merit badge. Girl Scouts will fulfill all but the service requirement for the Cadette’s/Senior’s World of Flight Interest Project. All participants will receive a Youth Aviation Adventure Patch.

Aviation Explorers The Ohio State University Department of Aviation sponsors the only Central Ohio Explorer post dedicated to aviation. This program allows youths to gain an insight into a variety of programs that offer hands-on career activities. For young men and women who are interested in careers in the field of aviation, exploring offers experimental learning with lots of fun-filled, hands-on activities that promote the growth and development of adolescent youth. Aviation Explorer posts also allow youths to obtain Career Achievement Awards.
