Title: The Influence of Stereotypes in the Workplace

Presenter: Sara Childers, PhD

In this interactive session, we will learn how stereotypes influence our actions and behaviors inside (and outside) the workplace.  We will then consider what steps can be taken to mitigate bias related to these stereotypes and how we can change our behaviors and actions when interacting with others. 

 

Title: People Matter- Inside the Safety Equation

Presenter: Kevin Daisey 

“People Matter – Inside the Safety Equation” is a presentation that brings a 3-pronged approach to the subjects of Diversity & Inclusion. Leadership / Management skills, Regulatory demands, and Scientific considerations under-gird safety dictates in aviation.  Collectively, these components bring into balance essential elements that promote air carrier safety in the public interest while mitigating organizational risks and associated liabilities.

Title: Examining Social Identity: Creating Authentic and Inclusive Spaces of Dialogue

Presenter: Nicole Nieto, PhD


This workshop focuses on creating spaces for authentic dialogue. Particular attention will be paid to understanding one’s own social identities (gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, religion/spirituality, language and nationality) and how these identities impact one’s experiences. This workshop offers specific strategies as well as experiential activities for creating more inclusive cultures through dialogue. The core focus is on valuing difference, diversity and inclusion to examine current structural, systemic and cultural imbalances.

 

Title: Safe Spaces: Diversity, Intersectionality, and Innovation

Presenters:  Armond Sinclair, PhD and Cedric Davis

The presentation will address how increased levels of inclusion & diversity lead to better innovation. It will dive into topics of identity, Intersectionality, social pressures, attitudes and behaviors.

Title: Inclusion before Diversity

Presenters: David Pettet and Troy Merritt

The aviation industry continues to change and diversify as the demand for pilots increases. As a result, companies and education institutions need to not only diversify but also establish an environment and culture to welcome everyone and provide a place of mutual respect. Aviation safety is critical and can be easily compromised due to homophobic and transphobic incidents. Join us to hear and engage as we talk about the LGBT aviation community, the part you can play, and help establish a course that will be successful for you and your organization. 

 

Title: Are we Settling for 6%?

Presenter: Becky Lutte, PhD

The presentation will focus on a review of data on women in the aviation workforce with emphasis on recruiting and retention strategies and best practices. Attendees are encouraged to join a discussion on future tactics to address workforce gaps.

Title: Engaging White Men: Strengthening Equity and Diversity Efforts

Presenters: Jennifer A. Beard and Scott Osborne

Real cultural change must involve white men, who still make up the majority of senior leadership and who hold influence in most industries and disciplines.  Quite simply, their commitment to diversity and inclusion is a significant factor in making progress on our common diversity goals. Research reflects that initiatives designed to include white men in diversity efforts can have a transformative effect.  This experiential workshop will describe the cutting edge work occurring at OSU as well as research behind it.

 

Title: Implicit Bias in the Workplace

Presenter: Steven Johnson and Anna Burroughs

This session will explore the various aspects of implicit bias in talent acquisition, engagement and training.
