COLUMBUS, Ohio – Dean David Williams of the Ohio State University’s College of Engineering joined representatives from American Airlines and its wholly-owned subsidiaries PSA Airlines, Piedmont Airlines and Envoy Airlines to celebrate the announcement of cadet program partnerships with the three carriers.

As part of the Cadet Program with each carrier, current students will have the opportunity to interview cadets or Senior Cadets, depending on flight experience. Upon earning a Certified Flight Instructor certificate through Ohio State Flight Education at the Ohio State University Airport, students have the opportunity to interview as Cadet Instructors, which provides them tuition reimbursement and a conditional job offer, with the opportunity to eventually flow up to American Airlines as pilots.

“The innovative Pilot Cadet Program model supported by American Airlines and executed by PSA, Piedmont, and Envoy provides Buckeye aviators the opportunity to follow a defined path from the classroom to a rewarding pilot career,” said Martin Rottler, lecturer and industry relations coordinator at the Center for Aviation Studies

He added that the program’s financial incentives and mentorship from existing pilots will directly benefit Ohio State flight education students.

Center for Aviation Studies Director Seth Young said that he and his staff prioritize industry relationships to develop innovative strategies to recruit, educate and produce the next generation of pilots and aviation management professionals.

“With these partnerships, our mission is facilitated greatly, our students see a clear career path to the airlines from early on in their education, and the industry will now be on surer footing with a consistent pipeline of quality professionals,” he said
