Students enrolled in The Ohio State University Flight Education program now have another pathway to a career flying commercial aircraft. A new partnership with Aviate, United’s pilot career development program, offers aspiring and established pilots the most direct path to a United flight deck.

As a partner university, Ohio State is approved to provide students with the instruction needed to reach minimum eligibility requirements in advance of their application to Aviate. Those who apply and are successful in the Aviate selection process will receive a conditional job offer from United, opportunities to connect with members of the United team, mentoring from a United pilot and access to unlimited travel privileges. Aviate participants can transition to United as a first officer upon successful completion of the Aviate program and hiring requirements.

The partnership was officially announced on March 2, 2022 at a ribbon cutting event on Ohio State’s campus. The celebratory gathering included updates from Aviate, along with networking opportunities for Ohio State aviation staff and students.

Brian Strzempkowski, assistant director of Ohio State’s Center for Aviation Studies, spearheaded the collaboration. “This partnership is about more than just providing pathways into the flight deck,” he shared. “It is about United Airlines and The Ohio State University working together to strengthen opportunities across all areas of aviation business and academics. A partnership between two brands as well-known as ours, sets the stage for big things to come. I look forward to seeing this program expand to include more opportunities for students, both in and out of the flight deck.”

The Aviate partnership is the latest in Ohio State’s notable list of career pathway partnerships. Interested to learn more? Visit the Center for Aviation Studies’ related webpage for details.
