“This is the best summer I’ve ever had…”
This summer, many Center for Aviation Studies students took to the skies – and office cubicles – across the country to practice skills toward advancement in the aviation industry as interns. Read on to learn about some of their impactful experiences.
Fatigue Risk Management Intern, American Airlines, Dallas, TX
“This is the best summer I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many talented professionals and develop my skills through various projects and networking opportunities. My bosses have been so supportive in providing me with many different experiences and tours. I’ve learned so many valuable lessons through this internship!”
Chief Pilot Intern, Alaska Airlines, Seattle, WA
“The best part of the Alaska Airlines Internship is the ability to jumpseat (ride in the cockpit) on Alaska Airlines flights. During the internship I traveled over 60,000 miles. I have learned so much about how airlines operate through flight operations, and how policies and procedures end up being used in the cockpit, especially in the State of Alaska. The best place I have flown so far is San Jose del Cabo, a tropical paradise in Mexico. The most interesting place I have flown to is Adak, Alaska, an abandoned U.S. military base from the Cold War.”
Aviation Intern, Ohio Department of Transportation, Columbus, OH
“I've always known I wanted to be a pilot and I still haven't strayed from that path. However, this internship has taught me that there's much more to being a pilot than knowing how to fly. I've been exposed to many policies and engineering practices that have helped me to understand why flight and airport operations operate the way they do.”
Operational Analytics Intern, Endeavor Air, Minneapolis, MN
“Working with Endeavor Air as a summer intern has been an exhilarating experience. I have enjoyed applying my aviation management coursework experience to conquer real-time airline challenges. Not to mention, I have certainly enjoyed my flight benefits which have allowed me the opportunity to visit multiple cities for rest, relaxation and a few business trips.”
Flight Operations Intern, United Airlines, Los Angeles, CA
“My favorite experience so far has been riding on a 787 ferry flight from LAX-SFO with two other interns from LAX.… The best part was how everyone on the ground was willing to help us three interns get on this flight—setting arrangements and submitting last minute approvals— just for three college kids to go on a small adventure.”
Financial Analyst Intern, American Airlines, Dallas, TX
"I have worked really hard on my finance project and the AA leadership team is very impressed. I also get to hear from leaders around American Airlines about their divisions. I also love traveling. I have traveled to many of our National Parks."
Now, with the start of autumn semester, it’s back to campus classrooms and central Ohio skies for most students. Keep up-to-date with center happenings by visiting our social media pages linked at the bottom of this webpage.
